SUMMARY OF THE WESTERN UNION® MONEY TRANSFERSM SERVICE TERMS AND CONDITIONS (FOR THE FULL TERMS AND CONDITIONS, PLEASE ASK ANY WESTERN UNION AGENT OR VISIT WWW.WESTERNUNION.COM.AU)
Western Union® Money TransferSM transactions can be sent and picked up at most Western Union® Agent locations worldwide. Regular money transfers are usually available within minutes for pick up by the receiver, subject to the opening hours of the receiving Western Union Agent (“Agent”) location. Exceeding amount limitations, regulatory restrictions or other restrictions in certain countries may delay the transaction. Western Union does not act as the agent or representative of any bank for any purpose and does not accept deposits on behalf of any bank.
Money transfers will normally be paid in cash, but some Agents may pay by cheque or a combination of cash and cheque or may offer or the receiver may choose other ways to receive funds and some money transfers may be paid to accounts. All cash payments are subject to availability, receivers showing documentary evidence of their identity and providing all details about the money transfer required by Western Union, including sender’s and receiver’s names, country of origin, approximate sum, money transfer control number and any other conditions or requirements applicable at the Agent location. The sender authorizes Western Union to honor the receiver’s choice of method to receive funds even if it differs from the sender’s. Cash money transfers shall be paid to the person that Agents deem entitled to receive the transaction after verification of identity often through examination of identification documents. Such payment can be made even when the form filled out by the receiver contains errors. Neither Western Union nor its Agents carry out a comparison of the “To Send Money” form against the “To Receive Money” form to verify the address given for the receiver. In some destinations the receiver may be required to provide identification, a test question answer or both to receive funds in cash. Test questions are not an additional security feature and cannot be used to time or delay the payment of a transaction and are prohibited in certain countries. Applicable law prohibits money transmitters from doing business with certain individuals and countries. Customers are sometimes required to provide additional identification or information, delaying transactions.
TRANSFER FEES: Written information explaining how Western Union charges the sender for making a money transfer will either be displayed prominently at the Agent location or shown to the sender prior to completion of the payment order. In certain cases, payment of a money transfer may be subject to local taxes and service charges. FOREIGN EXCHANGE: Money transfer payments will normally be made in the currency of the destination country. In addition to the transfer fee applicable to each transfer and if the currency which the sender presents to an Agent is not the currency to be received by the receiver, all currency is converted at Western Union’s then current rate of exchange. The currency will be converted at the time of transfer and the receiver will receive the foreign currency amount shown on the Transaction Receipt. In a few countries local regulations require the currency to be converted at the time the receiver is paid, in which case the exchange rate and any amounts shown on the Transaction Receipt may be subject to exchange rate fluctuations between the time of transfer and the time the receiver collects the funds.
SPECIAL SERVICES: Where available, Western Union offers free SMS notification to indicate that the transaction has been collected by the receiver (for the sender) or that funds are available for collection (for the receiver). Western Union will send SMS messages to a third party gateway for delivery. ACCOUNT BASED TRANSFERS: Where available, the receiver may incur additional fees for receiving the sender’s funds through a mobile telephone or to a bank or other account. Additional costs or delay may occur if transfers are not sent to a local (receiver) currency account. The receiver’s agreement with its mobile phone service, mWallet, bank or other account provider governs the account and determines their rights, liability, fees, funds availability and account limitations. In the event that the account number provided (including mobile phone numbers for mobile accounts) does not belong to the named receiver, the transfer will be credited to the account number provided by the sender. Western Union may make money from fees associated with use of an account. REFUND - Western Union will refund the principal amount of a money transfer upon the sender’s written request if payment has not made or credited. Transfer fees are not refunded if the transfer is stopped at the sender’s request.
LIABILITY: Western Union disclaims all liability in respect of the sender’s relationship with the receiver, without limitation, in respect of the delivery or suitability of any goods or services paid for by means of a Western Union money transfer. The sender’s transaction data is confidential to him and should not be shared with any other person other than his receiver. The sender is cautioned against sending money to any person he does not know. In no event shall Western Union or any of its Agents be liable if the sender communicates transactional data to any person other than his receiver. To the extent permitted by law, in no event shall Western Union or any of its Agents be liable for damages for delay, nonpayment or underpayment of this money transfer, or non-delivery of any supplemental message, whether caused by negligence on the part of their employees or agents or otherwise, beyond the sum equivalent to US$500 (in addition to refunding the principal amount of the money transfer and the transfer fee). In no event will Western Union or its Agents be liable for any indirect, special, incidental, or consequential damages. The foregoing disclaimer shall not limit Western Union’s or Agent’s liability for damages resulting from Western Union’s or Agent’s gross negligence or intentional misconduct in those jurisdictions where such a limitation of liability is void. The foregoing disclaimer shall not exclude Western Union’s nor its Agent’s liability for any condition or warranty that cannot be excluded by law including any implied warranty that it will render services with due care and skill, and Western Union’s and its Agent’s liability for breach of such condition or warranty shall be limited to the greater of the cost of providing the affected service again and the sum equivalent to US$500.

Filling out a Western Union form is a straightforward process, critical for securely sending or receiving money around the globe. The form acts as a bridge between you and the recipient, ensuring that the funds reach the right hands. By providing accurate and detailed information, you're not only complying with financial regulations but also safeguarding your transaction against delays or complications. Let's walk through the essential steps to complete this form accurately.
After completing the form, you will proceed to the payment stage. Here, depending on the chosen method, you might be required to provide further identification or payment details. Once your payment is processed, you'll receive a confirmation along with a tracking number for your transaction. This number is crucial for both sender and receiver to monitor the transfer's progress and ultimately confirm its successful completion. Keep it safe and easily accessible until the transaction is fully resolved.
What information do I need to fill out a Western Union form?
When filling out a Western Union form, you will need to provide your full name, address, and contact details (phone number and email address). You also need to specify the recipient's full name and their location. Depending on the purpose of the transfer, you might have to include additional information such as your bank account details, the recipient's bank account details, and the amount of money you are sending. Always double-check the accuracy of the information to ensure the transaction process is smooth.
How can I ensure my Western Union transaction is secure?
Ensuring the security of your Western Union transaction involves a few critical steps. First, only send money to people you personally know and trust. Be wary of transactions that seem suspicious or are for goods and services you have not received. Always keep your transaction details confidential and do not share them with anyone other than the intended recipient. Western Union also recommends that you avoid sending money to assist with an emergency that cannot be verified or to claim lottery or prize winnings. If you suspect fraudulent activity, contact Western Union immediately.
Can I cancel a Western Union transaction after it has been sent?
Yes, it is possible to cancel a Western Union transaction after it has been sent, but only if the money has not yet been picked up or deposited into the recipient's account. To cancel, you need to reach out to Western Union as soon as possible with your transaction details. You may be required to fill out a form or provide identification. If approved, your funds will be returned to you, although transaction fees might not be refundable. The process and possibility of cancellation may vary depending on the laws and regulations of the location from where you sent the money.
What fees are associated with sending money via Western Union?
The fees for sending money via Western Union depend on several factors, including the amount of money being sent, the destination country, the payment method (bank transfer, credit/debit card, or cash), and the method of receipt (cash pickup, bank deposit, or mobile money). Transactions funded with credit or debit cards typically incur higher fees compared to bank transfers. Additionally, international transfers are usually more expensive than domestic ones. You can check the exact fees for your transaction by using the price estimator tool on the Western Union website or app before completing your transfer.
How long does it take for a Western Union money transfer to be available to the recipient?
The availability of funds sent through Western Union varies based on the service chosen and the destination. In many cases, money sent for cash pickup can be available within minutes, although some transactions may take longer due to security checks or differences in time zones. Bank deposits may take one to two business days, though times can vary depending on the receiving bank and country. Using the tracking number (MTCN) provided after sending, both the sender and recipient can check the status of the transfer on the Western Union website or app to see when the funds are available.
When filling out a Western Union form, individuals often make errors that can complicate or delay the process. Recognizing and avoiding these mistakes enhances the efficiency and security of your transactions. Here’s a look at the most common missteps:
Not double-checking the recipient's information. It’s crucial to verify the recipient's name, address, and other details to ensure the money is sent to the correct person.
Ignoring currency conversion rates. Failing to account for exchange rates can result in the recipient receiving less money than intended.
Entering incorrect personal details. Mistakes in your own information, such as misspelled names or wrong phone numbers, can delay the transaction.
Omitting the purpose of the transfer. Some jurisdictions require you to specify the reason for your transaction, and not doing so can halt the process.
Misjudging the transfer limits. Each country and service may have its own limits on how much can be sent or received, which, if not adhered to, can complicate the transaction.
Forgetting to sign the form. An unsigned form is generally considered incomplete and can’t be processed.
Not keeping a record of the transaction. Receipts and transaction numbers are vital for tracking and confirming transfers, and losing them can pose problems if disputes arise.
Using outdated or incorrect forms. Regulations and forms change; using an outdated version can invalidate your transaction.
Overlooking promotional codes or transfer fees. Neglecting these can lead to unexpectedly high costs or missed opportunities for savings.
By paying attention to these aspects and carefully reviewing the Western Union form, individuals can ensure a smooth and secure money transfer experience.
When engaging in transactions involving money transfers through Western Union, individuals often find themselves needing additional forms and documents to ensure the process runs smoothly. Alongside the main Western Union form, these additional documents serve various purposes, ranging from verifying the identity of the sender or recipient to providing evidence of the money transfer. Below is a list of documents frequently used in conjunction with the Western Union form, each playing a pivotal role in facilitating secure and efficient financial transactions.
Understanding and preparing these documents before heading to a Western Union branch or conducting an online transfer can significantly expedite the process. Moreover, ensuring that all paperwork is accurate and complete not only helps in meeting legal and procedural requirements but also adds an extra layer of security to your financial transactions. Each document complements the Western Union form, paving the way for a smooth and secure transfer of funds.
Money Order Form: Like the Western Union form, a Money Order Form is a prepayment method used for transactions. Both provide a secure way to send funds, requiring the sender's information and the recipient's details. The primary purpose is to ensure that the transaction can be traced and verified, safeguarding both parties against potential fraud.
Bank Wire Transfer Request Form: This form shares similarities with the Western Union form in facilitating the electronic transfer of funds between accounts, often across geographic locations. Each requires the sender's banking details, including account number and routing information, along with the recipient's account information, to process the transaction securely and efficiently.
PayPal Send Money Form: The PayPal form operates on a digital platform, much like an online version of the Western Union form. It allows users to transfer funds to others using email addresses or phone numbers. Both forms necessitate identifying the transaction's purpose and confirm the identity of the sender and receiver to ensure a secure transfer process.
Bank Check: A traditional banking instrument, the bank check shares core functionalities with the Western Union form, such as providing a tool for non-cash payments. Each document requires the payer’s authorization before funds are transferred, ensuring that the beneficiary receives the specified amount securely, backed by the issuing institution's guarantee.
Cashier’s Check Request Form: Similar to Western Union's form, this document is used to request a cashier's check from a bank. Both require the payer's details and the payment amount, offering a secure payment method since the issuer guarantees the funds. They're commonly used for significant transactions, where verification of available funds is crucial.
When filling out the Western Union form, it’s essential to follow these guidelines to ensure a smooth and error-free transaction. Paying attention to both the dos and don'ts can help save time and avoid potential issues.

Don't:
Western Union is a widely recognized service for sending and receiving money across the globe. Many misconceptions surround its use, particularly relating to the forms required for transactions. Here are ten misconceptions that merit clarification:
Sending money requires extensive personal information: While Western Union does need basic information to process transactions, they do not require extensive personal details, focusing instead on the necessary data to ensure a secure transfer.
Receiver needs a bank account: One common misconception is that the person receiving money must have a bank account. Western Union allows recipients to pick up cash at a local agent location, making a bank account optional for certain services.
Forms are only in English: Western Union forms are available in multiple languages to accommodate a diverse user base, not just in English. This inclusivity helps facilitate easier transactions worldwide.
There is only one standard form for all transactions: Western Union uses different forms depending on the nature of the transaction, whether it's sending money, paying bills, or receiving funds. Choosing the right form is crucial.
Forms must be filled out in person: Contrary to belief, Western Union forms can be filled out online, offering convenience and speed. In-person completion is an option, not a mandate.
Transaction fees are hidden in the form: Western Union is upfront about transaction fees, which are disclosed before completing the transfer. The form itself does not contain hidden fees; transparency is a priority.
Western Union is only for international transfers: Though well-known for international transfers, Western Union also facilitates domestic transactions. It's a versatile tool for sending and receiving money both locally and globally.
Money can be sent or received anonymously: For security and legal reasons, Western Union requires identification for all transactions. Sending or receiving money anonymously is not supported, emphasizing the importance of transparency and accountability.
Forms guarantee instant transfer: While Western Union offers fast services, transfer times can vary based on factors like the destination, chosen service, and payment method. The form submission begins the process but doesn't guarantee instant completion.
All corrections must be made in person: If a mistake is made on a form, corrections can often be made by contacting customer service. In some cases, in-person revisions may be necessary, but many issues can be resolved without visiting an agent location.
Understanding these aspects of Western Union forms helps users navigate the process more effectively, ensuring a smoother experience for both sending and receiving funds.
Filling out a Western Union form is a critical step in ensuring a smooth process for sending money. It's important to understand not just how to complete the form, but also the implications of the information you provide.
